Agent Selling Tips: Honeymoons

Category: News Stories

To celebrate the month of love, we're shining a spotlight on honeymoons & romantic trips in the Asia Pacific region. We've asked PATA Committee Member & Senior Product Manager at Best At Travel, Sam Collins, to give his top tips on selling honeymoons in the Asia Pacific region.

What are your top selling tips for couples seeking a perfect honeymoon?

Many people like to find out what the hotels will offer honeymooners – but oddly this is a uniquely British trait and there is something to be said for being surprised upon arrival. Reiterate to your Travel Agent that this is your honeymoon and to advise the hotels who fundamentally love honeymooners – there is nothing nicer that to arrive to surprises – be it a cake on arrival, upgrade or even a couples massage. But do consider that sometimes it’s nicer to be surprised than to know in advance what perks you will get!

Find out what they really want from their trip – after the exhaustion of organising and getting married do they just need a extended period of recovery in a beautiful beach resort on arrival before moving onto temples and busier areas? A dream may be just chilling in a private pool villa – and perhaps this is more accessible within budget if they do this in an off season resort? After all they may wish to do nothing but relax and sleep – so perhaps booking off season could be perfect.

What recent booking trends have you noticed for honeymoons?

It’s been slower in coming than many anticipated but the last 6 months has seen a surge in travel to Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia. Secondary destinations in Thailand are now being replaced by tertiary destinations – Koh Chang, Koh Lipe and beyond are now on everyones wish list.

What are your forward booking predictions for honeymooners?

Asia remains the perfect honeymoon destinations as you can blend action, culture and deserted picture perfect beaches. As we return to pre-covid airline capacity and routings we will see easier access to quieter beaches such as Koh Lipe in Thailand, the islands off Komodo in Indonesia and Koh Rong in Cambodia – all of which are becoming more easier to reach. Off the beaten track destinations in Asia will continue to deliver high quality accommodation for honeymooners to start (or finish) their dream trip – a period of time to relax and recoup with their loved ones before heading to livelier destinations. The Philippines is likely to see a full resurgence from European honeymooners as travel becomes simpler.
